Ten Things Your Skinny Friends Don’t Tell You

‘Ten things your skinny friends don’t tell you,’ by Keerthi Yella, an IT professional and a debutant writer from Hyderabad, is an informative self help book that unravels the process of staying skinny in a very simple yet effective way. Unlike the regular weight loss or diet books by a famous celebrity or a nutritionist or a trainer, the author has chosen a unique and humorous enroute to lay down the tricks, techniques and deep down secrets from the hidden diaries of skinny Indian women. This book also offers the reader an experience of reading and relating to the very many anecdotes from the author’s real life experiences in an expressive and a colloquial narrative style which makes it worth the read.

The author’s quirkiness begins at the very first page with a quick-wit Q&A which sets the mood of the book. It talks about the human genomes and the myths around it,  the dieticians long listed fast & fancy diets, the skinny person’s dear comrade and the greatest fear, importance of portion controls, buffets and their effect on the brain cells and a lot many topics in a satirical tone. Needless to say,  the efficacious tips and tricks to tackle the rasagulla aunties, creepy uncles,  naggy bosses, those loved and not-so loved mere mortals or worldly Moths are sure shots to crackle your funny bones.

Amid effortless chuckles and crescent curves that brighten your face, you will also encounter junctures that offer some deep insights on topics such as judgmental presumptions that we consciously or subconsciously deduce about a  skinny or an over sized person and the insecurities they face, the fast forwarded lifestyle controlled by so called tech smart gadgets, the clever marketing gimmicks, the social taboos and the in equations that are deep rooted in our Indian society.

Epilogue:

Check out the super powerful mantra from this book to stay fit both physically and mentally

P.S:

Smiles are contagious and so is this book. This one is a perfect pick to read on those chilly winter evenings sipping a cup of steaming coffee. The curve on your lips will never fade but might only broaden until you finish the last page, last sentence and the last word.

“…….but the non-fictions enthralled me”

When the world is gaga on fiction, why have you chosen non-fiction genre and book on body positivity?

I frankly did not know the world is gaga on fiction. Even from my childhood, my world revolved around non-fiction. Fiction could only entertain me, but the non-fictions enthralled me and increased my perspective of the world and people. I feel people should definitely alternate between fiction and non-fiction and keep themselves entertained as well as informed.
This book of mine is not only about weight loss but also about healthy living and wellness. I felt it is very important to discuss about the insecurities and challenges faced by people of all body types- thin, average, and over-weight and endorse body positivity for all. Our bodies that help us live, deserve our kindness.
Why should I buy this book?
To know the crazy feats of skinny people! Jokes apart, one should buy and read this book to re-acquaint themselves with the best practices of healthy eating and living, which were forgotten with over load of information. Our grand parents practiced most of these techniques and stayed healthy. One should also buy this book to have hearty laughs. Though I have to warn that people who are extremely allergic to humor and happiness should stay away from this book.
Whose books inspire you the most?
Great spiritual books of any religion inspire me the most. When it comes to mainstream writers, I like Leo Tolstoy and humor authors like P.G.Wodehouse and O.henry.
Which are your best phrases and chapters from this book. You definitely cannot say all of them 😉 ?
Haha, I will not. We all have our favorites in everything. One of my favorite phrases is: They say that in life, going uphill is difficult while going downhill is easy. But on a weighing machine, going uphill is way easier than going downhill.
When it comes to humor, my favorite chapter is number five which talks about slow eating. When it comes to content, my favorite chapter is the last one which talks about mindful eating.
