Kusumita Mukherjee Debnath’s Two Poems

Kusumita Mukherjee Debnath is a poet who feels the pulse of woman. Her poems voice the unexpressed, perhaps unacknowledged pain of woman strangled and struggling in the mire of societal demands on her time, emotions and energy. Her body and spirit are tired beyond measure yet she goes on! The poet voices the dreams of woman with ‘dainty wings’ and need for ‘love’! She is ready to fly with a little hope!

  1. Pulse

Did she feel the pulse?

It was a starry night.

Dreams were scarce.

Yet she felt

She needed to feel

Love.

Her bones begged her to sleep

She failed

For love.

It was so strong

It consumed her

From within.

She writhed

Wrung

Till tears came.

Now she was quiet

And calm.

But not ended.

  1. Story

No words

Could repeat

The pain.

Horror was

Far from over.

She was lost.

Her bangles

Mocked her

She was broken.

Cruel fate had

Broken her

Dainty wings.

She was jittery

Pained beyond measure.

Wrecked.

Just one ray

Of hope

Was enough.

Will she fly

Or die?

Only time would know.
