Telugu original: Vamsidhar Reddy
“You ask me something with love,
I reply to you something;
You don’t understand,
well, that’s because whatever I say
is meaningless too.
But what do I do, when it is a
necessity for every human to become
a language of one’s own.
When silence becomes a habit,
they say, one can forget two words
each day. Excuse me, though,
silence too bridges us, until
our tears burn our distances.
But, what do you say,
a tongue too dumb to imagine an answer
cannot ask a question?”
And I wrote thus, asked her
what she thinks about it. She said
something. I didn’t understand.
“Now, I know you understand” she said.
We smiled at each other, made
a paper boat out of the poem,
standing under a bridge,
waiting for rain.
