O dark lotus of mine
Do you come alive in the dark?
Do you spread your wings in the dark?
Why is darkness so beautiful?
I remember it in every sight of you
Your dark face sparkles
Your white set of teeth shun
The evil eye cast on your beauty
The songs you sing so alluringly
The drums that you rap,
Are the callings of a Chandaala, isn’t it?
After all, song and music
Were born in our ghetto
Born with those ousted by structure
Born within us, the Chandaalas
My darling
If you lay beside me
I feel like I am home

Arunank Latha is from the Coal Belt area in Telangana and has a postgraduate degree in law. He has published poetry anthologies and has also presented his poems at several literary festivals. His poems have also been translated into various languages. He writes poetry because to him, it is a way of expressing anguish, love and emotion.

మొదటి సారి అనువాదం కొంచెం అసంతృప్తి గా అనిపించింది. అది మైత్రి తప్పు కాదు. ఇంజిలీషు భాషది. తెలుగులో చదివితే ఆ పదాలు స్పష్టమైన సంకేతాలతో మన ముందుకు వస్తాయి. ఇది మరే భారతీయ భాషలో అనువాదించినా ఆ సమస్య ఉండదు. అవర్ణం అన్నప్పుడు వర్ణ వ్యవస్థ, చండాలం అన్నప్పుడు ఒక కులం తిట్టుగా మారిన వైనం ఇవన్నీ సులువుగా అర్థం అవుతాయి. Non native reader కి అందకపోవచ్చు. ఏం చేయలేము. కొన్ని అనువాదానికి లొంగవు. కొన్ని ముఖ్యంగా భారతీయేతర భాషలకు లొంగవు. ఫుట్ నోట్లు కొంత సహాయ పడవచ్చు.
ఇక్కడ dark అనకుండా black అనుంటే కొంత క్లూ దొరికేది.
