Every Year

Vadrevu China Veerabhadrudu is an avid reader and a passionate poet and critic,  Vadrevu is known for his excellent observation of nature and human nature. His poetry mesmerizes readers with vibrant and lively images, lucid style and an extra ordinary intellectual sensibility. He published several collections of poems including nirvikalpa sangeetham, vontari chelalo vokkate amma. He is also an accomplished short fiction writer and writes about cultural matters in Telugu.

Been watching every year:

Been trying to practise like a tree how

I can take on spring devoutly to my head

And that all the old and all those turned older

Should drop off by themselves.

As the whole house is cleansed

after the settling down of body and soul

A new sprout should raise its head on the trunk

Like the lamp that is lit on the platform of the veranda

Been zealously dreaming for many a year:

How to take in spring

Like the sugarcane –

your heart should have only sweetness

As you grow

And that the more

you are broke and crushed

The more you should spill only nectarous juice.

Been tuning myself

All through my life:

That a new knowledge of inviting spring like a cuckoo

Should come over

Mindless of who and where you are

And involved in what other things all round the year-

they should feel the bliss of spring

The moment they hear your call

ప్రతి ఏడూ చూస్తూనే ఉన్నాను

ప్రతి ఏడూ చూస్తూనే ఉన్నాను:

ఒక చెట్టులాగా ఉగాదిని శిరసావహించడమింకా

సాధన చేస్తూనే ఉన్నాను.

పాతవన్నీ, పాతబడ్డవన్నీ

వాటికవే రాలిపోవాలని.

ఇల్లంతా తుడిచిపెట్టుకున్నట్టు

మనోదేహాలు తేటపడ్డాక

అరుగుమీద దీపం వెలిగించినట్టు

తరువుమీద చిగురు పొటమరించాలని.

ఎన్నేళ్ళుగానో తపనపడుతూనే ఉన్నాను:

ఒక చెరకులాగా ఉగాదిని

స్వీకరించడమెట్లానో తెలుసుకోవాలని.

నువ్వు పెరుగుతుండే కొద్దీ నీ మనసంతా

తీపి తప్ప మరేదీ మిగలకూడదని.

నిన్నెంత తుంచితే, అణిచితే

అంత మధురరసధార చిందుతుండాలని.

జీవితకాలంపొడుగుతా

నన్ను నేను శ్రుతిచేసుకుంటూనే ఉన్నాను:

ఒక కోకిలలాగా ఉగాదిని

స్వాగతించే విద్య పట్టుబడాలని.

నువ్వెవరివో, ఎక్కడుంటావో

ఏడాదిపొడుగునా ఏం చేస్తుంటావో-

నీ కూజితం వింటే చాలు

వాళ్ళకి వాసంతసంతోషమంతా స్ఫురించాలని.
