Two Poems by Eya Sen

1

Ashes of the Womb

Behind the layers of the flesh

Lies a sanctuary of promise,

Vows laden with thousand fruits, flowers, and harvest.

Mother Earth, in her boundless grace

bestowed upon the primal man with her fertile seed

He honoured her with diverse crops,

adorned her with exquisite flowers

He enriched her.

The modern man, driven by his insatiable greed

Bore holes into her womb,

Binding her soul with the chains of avarice;

He shattered her.

His hunger shall condemn her children to an empty fate.

Mother Earth cries out for the loss of her sacredness.

Grief Stricken Earth

There lays a blue green serenade,

Glowing beneath the hushed moonlight,

Whispers of the past.

The silence holds a brewing rage;

Stillness holds a weight.

The burning sun, crackling storms,

Trembling mountains, roaring rivers–

The earth is mourning.

The silent cries of the land and above

Longing for the silence after rage.
